Personal Care

Personal Care Services

Hands-on help with washing, dressing, moving safely around the home and staying on top of medication - provided in your own home by trained, background-checked caregivers.

What personal care involves

Personal care covers the hands-on, everyday tasks that get harder with age, illness, injury or disability: washing and bathing, getting dressed, moving safely around the house, using the bathroom, and keeping on top of medication. It is practical help, but it is also personal - these are private routines, and the way they are handled affects a person's dignity as much as their safety.

Our caregivers are trained to give that help without taking over. The aim is to support what someone can still manage on their own and step in only where it is genuinely needed, so independence is protected rather than replaced. Care follows a written plan built around the individual's routine, preferences and pace, and that plan is reviewed as circumstances change.

Personal care is often the first service a family arranges, and it is commonly combined with homemaker services or companion care so that household tasks and company are covered in the same visit.

What's included

Bathing and showering assistance

Help getting in and out of the bath or shower safely, washing where it is hard to reach, and drying and dressing afterwards. Where a full wash is not wanted or not possible, a caregiver can assist with a strip wash at the basin instead.

Dressing and wardrobe selection

Support choosing clothes suitable for the weather and the day ahead, and help with the fiddly parts - buttons, zips, fastenings, compression stockings and footwear.

Medication reminders and organization

Prompting at the right times, checking doses have actually been taken, and keeping blister packs and boxes in order so nothing is missed or doubled. Caregivers do not administer medication that requires a licensed nurse.

Mobility and transfer assistance

Steadying support moving between bed, chair, toilet and bath, help with stairs, and assistance using a frame, stick or wheelchair - reducing falls risk at the points in the day when it is highest.

Toileting and incontinence care

Discreet help getting to and using the toilet in good time, and managing continence products, washing and changing afterwards with the dignity this part of care particularly requires.

Who personal care is for

When personal care is the right fit

Families usually get in touch when daily routines have started to slip. Personal care often applies when:

  • bathing or showering is being skipped because it has become difficult or unsafe
  • dressing takes far longer than it used to, or the same clothes are worn several days running
  • there have been falls or near-misses moving between bed, chair and bathroom
  • medication is being missed, doubled up or taken at the wrong time
  • someone is recovering from surgery, a hospital stay or a fall
  • a family member is providing this help and it is no longer sustainable

How to arrange personal care

  1. Talk to us. Call (419) 921-2144 or send a care request. We will go through the situation with you at no cost and with no obligation.
  2. Agree a care plan. We look at what help is needed, when it is needed and how it should be delivered, then put it in writing.
  3. Meet your caregiver. We match a caregiver to the plan, confirm the schedule, and review it as needs change.

Personal care questions

Personal care is hands-on support for the person: bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility and medication reminders. Homemaker services look after the home instead - cleaning, laundry, meals, shopping and errands. Many clients use both, often within the same visit.

Our caregivers provide medication reminders and help with organisation, such as prompting at the right time and making sure doses are laid out correctly. Anything that requires a licensed nurse is handled through our waiver nursing service. Tell us what is needed and we will confirm exactly what we can cover.

Schedules are built around the routine you need covered, from a single short visit each day through to several visits daily. Tell us which times of day matter most and we will build the schedule around them.

Matching a caregiver to the client is part of how we set care up, and we take preferences into account. If the fit is not right, speak to your care coordinator and we will look at alternatives.
